Hi,

hier der Log eines (bisher) nicht erfolgreichen Flashversuchs der MSS-Firmware auf das Netcenter.
Vielleicht sind so Rückschlüsse auf ein erfolgreiches Verwenden der open-MSS auf dem Netcenter möglich.

Zumindest ist nach dem Flashen ein telnet-Zugang möglich (nach Aktivierung per serieller Konsole) und ganz unten ist der neue Maxtor-Anmeldungscreen des Netcenters zu sehen...

Mir ist in diesem Log z.B. folgendes aufgefallen:

A pair of credits:

Im Verzeichnis /bin gibts jetzt u.a. auch eine Datei "utelnetd"

Also habe ich mal in der seriellen Konsole den Dienst zu starten versucht:
# utelnetd
telnetd: starting
port: 23; interface: any; login program: /bin/sh

... und er startet und nun komme ich vom Rechner via telnet auf das Netcenter.

Na da muss sich doch was machen lassen...

Im ersten Moment dachte ich, dass die Netzwerkkarte irgendwie falsch geladen wird. Nun sie funktioniert ja, nachdem Telnet geht ;-) Wg. der Maxtor Konfigurationsseite (via web) könnte ich mir gut vorstellen, das im Speicher oder auf der Festplatte zusätzlich benötigte Dateien abgelegt sind und diese natürlich auf dem NetCenter fehlen. -> Schonmal die Platte/Partition von der Maxtor in die WD eingebaut?

Das Problem ist mit Sicherheit der CFE-Bereich - der wird ja nicht mitgeflasht. Wenn der gegen den vom MSS austauschbar ist, dann funktionierts.

Ich muss aber erst mal den originalen CFE-Bereich sichern, bevor ich die cfe.bin vom MSS aufs Netcenter flashe. Darum kümmere ich mich an diesem Wochenende, Zugriff darauf habe ich ja schon.

Nun brauche ich nur noch einen Tip, wie ich den CFE-Bereich per serieller Konsole oder Telnet sichern kann.
Und zwar so, dass er wieder zurückgeflasht werden könnte, also als cfe.bin.
WD hatte diese cfe.bin im Firmwaredownload v.1.0.0.015, aber an den kommt wohl keiner mehr ran und WD wird mir den nicht einfach so schicken.

Mit JTAG geht das zwar, aber dazu müßte ich erst noch ein spezielles, paralleles Interface bauen (die Anschluss-Lötpunkte sind auf der Platine vorhanden).
Hat/kennt denn vielleicht jemand einen JTAG-Treiber für ein serielles, 4-poliges(!) Kabel?

Sonst ist das Netcenter vielleicht nachher nur noch ein Briefbeschwerer...

Ja, da ist irgendwas mit den Pfaden nicht richtig. Vielleicht kannst Du es per Telnet korrigieren und dann daraus ein neues Image erstellen. Bist ja momentan der einzige der Zugriff drauf hat.
Oder versuch mal ein Image zu erstellen mit aktiviertem Autostart des Telnets, damit ich es mal bei mir flashen kann und auch Zugriff hab. Müsste so ähnlich wie mit dem NFS-Dienst gehen:

To start NFS automatically every time the MSS is powered on, create a file in /opt/etc/init.d/ called something like S60nfsd and containing the above commands and the following on the first line:
# #!/bin/sh
Make sure that the file is executable with:
# chmod +x S60nfsd

Ich weiss leider nicht, ob ein Backup irgendwie per TFTP möglich ist, oder ob man wirklich einen JTAG-Adapter dafür braucht. Ich hoffs jedenfalls nicht.

Da stimmen nicht nur die Pfade nicht.
Denn auch ein /opt-Verzeichnis gibt es nicht und die Dienste starten nicht automatisch. Momentan muss ich per serieller Konsole Telnet aktivieren und kann dann darüber weitere Dienste starten. Aber es eröffnet weitere Möglichkeiten, zum Beispiel das Installieren von Diensten per wget (z.B. ftp).

Heute werde ich das JTAG-Kabel anlöten und erst mal alles Wichtige, wie Bootloader etc. sichern, bevor ich mich an der Configuration des CFE/NVRam vergreife.
Update:
Das Kabel ist fertig, nun fehlt noch ein Programm, dass den Broadcom BCM91780 unterstützt. Das wgt54 V4.5 kennt ihn noch nicht...

Witzigerweise läßt sich das Netcenter mit der open-mss-FW von Windows aus normal benutzen, obwohl die LED hektisch rot-blau blinkt. Ich kann im shared-files-Verzeichnis problemlos speichern, es eben nur nicht per Webbrowser konfigurieren.

Vertust Du Dich hier nicht?
Es geht doch hier um den Prozessor oder nicht? Und das ist der BCM47XX, der vom JTAG-Tool durchaus unterstützt wird.

ja, das kannte ich schon und ich hatte auch die einzelnen Schritte mit der SimpleShare-Firmware erfolgreich nachvollziehen können. (Da fällt mir ein, die wollte ich doch auch mal auf dem Netcenter testen - mache ich noch)

Ich habe das dann probehalber mal mit der Netcenter-Firmware versucht:
# dd if=R1_1_0.003.wdf of=root.cramfs bs=1 skip=1151648
.. und erhalte auch eine root.cramfs, aber nach
# mount -o loop,ro ./root.cramfs /mnt
... kommt leider nur die Fehlermeldung: must specify filesystem (oder so ähnlich)

Wäre aber auch zu einfach gewesen.

Was mir eben noch fehlt, ist eine Analyse der Netcenter-Firmware, so wie es von John bei der MSS-FW gemacht wurde.

Ich muss mir das aber erst noch selbst erarbeiten, denn ich habe inzwischen keine Lust mehr, im openmss-Forum um Hilfe zu betteln und dann nicht mal irgendeine Antwort zu bekommen.

Du hattest doch im Chat schon Kontakt mit John, vielleicht kannst Du ihn ja mal fragen, wie bei der Netcenter-FW der Kernel (piggy) und Filesystem (root-cramfs) extrahiert werden können.

Dann kämen wir weiter.

... und hast Du´s eigentlich getestet?

Es läuft bei mir immer noch perfekt auf beiden Netcentern.

Die Warnmeldung habe ich selbst wegbekommen, das cramfs-Image war 3 Byte zu groß und das waren obendrein nur Leerzeilen, bei einer Gesamtgröße von knapp 7 MB echt bedeutend .

Sorry, hatte inzwischen eine neue Version gebaut. Kannst die FW jetzt auf den Webseiten laden (Firmware -> _openFW).

Am Wochenende gibts mehr Erklärung dazu, hab dann mehr Zeit.

Über die Fremd-FW denke ich , dass macht wenig Sinn, aber schauen wir mal.
